Literature Festy!

The literati!

Attended an awesome literature meet a few days back. All the biggies of the Indian Literature Industry attended the four day seminar in NCPA, Nariman Point. The debates were all very interesting and provided valuable insight into the literary scene in the new India. Autographs and photos were clicked with all the writers! Chetan Bhagat, Ashwin Sanghi, Mark Tully, Farookh Dhondhy, S Hussein Zaidi, Shashi Tharoor, Shobha De, Amish Tripathi, Ayaz Memon, Sidharta Mukherjee among others...:)

I waved but he didnt.

                                   I waved but he didn’t.

The local train was on the harbor line. I was going to VT for some monthly shopping and this was my first local journey since I had arrived in Mumbai a year ago. I looked out of the window at the large expanse of slums. Bad stench and narrow galis marked it unique. The train halted. A slum boy around eight years old was staring at me. I smiled and waved. He gave a shrewd look and sighed. "Fucking Non Mumbaikar", I could hear him say in his mind. He was used to passing trains and knew that even if a million people waved at him, he would still remain a slum dweller, one among the thousands, that made Mumbai, what she was. The train moved on.

Flaunting, it is an art~!

                                      Flaunting, it is an art

“So… wow! You read such books?” I asked my fellow passenger on the 2:23 local to VT as I pointed to Hamlet, War and peace, Mother kept in his bag. “Well yes, I love classics”, he said and started fumbling through the 1000 pages of Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.  I noticed he wasn’t actually reading, rather just looking at the book. A few minutes passed as he read apparently uninterested. Finally in despair, he threw it down and took out a Harry Potter from the bag and smiled at me apologetically. Some people just love to show off.
